CHIKAKO
HASHIMOTO (†)

On 25th March 2024 Ms. Chikako Veronika Hashimoto has returned to her creator.

From 2019 to 2023 Ms. Hashimoto has served as president of the Japanese section of AISCGre.

She started her musical career by studying singing at the Music University of Musashino, Japan. Subsequently she did her study of church music at the Music University in Cologne, Germany, of baroque chant with Rune Jakobs and Cembalo with Anne Marie Bohne. As a disciple of Luigi Agustoni, she focused on Gregorian Chant. She followed the courses by Johannes B. Göschl in St. Ottilien and Essen and deepened her knowledge of Gregorian semiology with Godehard Joppich.
In 1979 Hashimoto founded the St. Gregory Institute for Religious Music in Tokyo; since then, she has been teaching church music and conducting the choir of St. Gregory, Tokyo.

In 2019, Ms. Hashimoto was decorated with the order of St. Gregory by Pope Francis for her longstanding church music activities in Japan. Through her activities she has deeply influenced the world of Gregorian Chant in Japan.
