[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Johannes Berchmans G\u00f6schl studied at the Pontifical Institute for Sacred Music in Rome and did his doctoral thesis in Gregorian Chant with Dom Eug\u00e8ne Cardine. Following teaching assignments in Munich and Saarbr\u00fccken, he became ordinary professor for Gregorian Chant and Liturgy at the Munich University for Music and Theatre. He held this chair until his he became emeritus in 2006.<\/p>\n

From 1978 to 1994 G\u00f6schl was choir master at the Archabbey of St. Ottilien. The three volume publication together with Luigi Agustoni \u201cIntroduction to the Interpretation of Gregorian Chant\u201d offers a comprehensive insight into the present state of research of Gregorian Semiology and the connected questions of interpretation of Gregorian Chant.<\/p>\n

From 1999 to 2015 he served as AISCGre President, in 2015 he was appointed Honorary President. Since its foundation in 1977, he is a member of the working group on the restitution of melodies and co-editor of the \u201cBeitr\u00e4ge zur Gregorianik\u201d (BzG). He played a major role in the elaboration and publication of the two volumes of Graduale Novum.<\/p>\n

Even after his retirement, G\u00f6schl continues to teach Gregorian Chant in theory and praxis in numerous courses and workshops worldwide and he contributes to the academic discussion of Gregorian issues. He has been directing numerous recordings, among others the recording project of the proper pieces of all Sundays and feasts of the liturgical year, published by EOS-Verlag St. Ottilien.<\/p>\n
